The halal cart is what New York eats at two in the morning. It started with Egyptian street vendors in Midtown in the 1990s and turned into the city’s real signature dish: charred chicken off a flat-top griddle, a bed of yellow rice, shredded salad, and the white sauce everyone argues about. It is cheap, it is enormous, and it is halal by default — which is why every cab driver in the city knows exactly where the good cart is.
That plate did not exist in Islamabad. There are excellent biryani houses, excellent karahi, excellent burgers, and a growing shawarma scene — but nobody was cooking the New York version: the turmeric rice, the flat-top char, the white sauce and the red sauce that comes with a warning. So we built the cart here, in Bahria Enclave, and we cook to order rather than to a warming tray.
Everything is 100% halal. Chicken and beef are bought fresh, marinated in-house, and grilled when your order comes in — not scooped out of a pan that has been sitting since lunch. The rice is cooked in batches through the day. The sauces are made here, from scratch, because bottled white sauce is not white sauce.
Chicken Over Rice is the one to start with. Grilled chicken over seasoned yellow rice, salad, white sauce, and as much of the red sauce as you can handle. It is the dish the whole cart is built around, and it is our most-ordered plate by a distance. Beef Over Rice swaps in sliced gyro meat; Mix Over Rice gives you both.
Gyros are the same meat wrapped in warm pita with lettuce, tomato and sauce — the thing to get if you are eating in the car or walking back to the office. Chicken, beef, or mixed.
Platters are the large format: double the meat, double the rice, plus fries, falafel and a refresher. One platter comfortably feeds two normal appetites or one serious one.
Loaded Cheese Fries are fries buried under melted cheese, chicken and olives. They are the thing people add to an order and then order on their own the following week. Chicken Tenders are hand-breaded and fried when you ask for them, not held under a lamp.
To drink, the refreshers — peach, blueberry lime, strawberry lemonade — are shaken fresh over ice, and they cut through the richness of the rice better than a soft drink does.
Feeding a group? The deals — Duo, Trio and the Family Feast — bundle the same food for less than ordering it piece by piece, and the saving is printed next to each one.
Order from this page and the food comes straight from our kitchen to your door. There is no aggregator commission sitting between us, which is why the prices here are the prices — no platform mark-up, no surge, no service fee bolted on at the last screen.
